Panama Viajo, Panama Old Spanish archaeological site is modeled on the European urban planning built in 1519, in a linear network structure to establish the initial Panama City, which is the oldest Spanish colony in the Pacific coast of the Americas. Panama City survived the sixteenth and seventeenth century by repeated fires, earthquakes and attacks by pirates of the Caribbean. But it was severely damaged in the battle with the pirates in 1671, so the Spaniards moved Panama City to the site of the current Panama City Old Town, the original old Panama City become today's abandoned ruins. The Panama City Old Town and the archaeological site along the Old Town were designated as UN World Heritage Sites in 1997.
